WOOPS! FEMA Closed Due To “Weather”

When Hurricane Sandy Disaster victims trekked to their local FEMA center for aid and food, they were shocked, confused and surprised when they were met with locked doors and a sign that said: “FEMA Center Closed Due To Weather.”

Evidently, a coming rain and snow storm was going to put FEMA out of commission. Wait a minute… as the phrase goes, “What’s wrong with this picture?”

“FEMA packed up and left,” said Louis Giraldi, 47, a volunteer handing out cleaning supplies to victims.

“We don’t know where they are, so there’s nothing here but us.”

"FEMA Center Closed Due To Weather" Sign For Weary Sandy Victims

Weary and storm-torn Sandy victims were shocked and dismayed to find their local FEMA center closed due to “weather.” Evidently, a rain and snowstorm is on its way. Evacuations were not ordered… that is, except for FEMA.

There was no evacuation ordered, but nonetheless, FEMA’s intake and food distribution center closed up shop and left town.

Evidently the rain and possible snow due to an approaching nor-easter was enough to shutter emergency services.

Where’s the government when you really need them?

Perhaps they’ll return when it’s once again, sunny, dry and warm. ; )

(In all fairness, it seems some of the temporary trailers might be susceptible to winds and not have electricity during the coming storm. But buildings were also shut down. Solution: Depend upon one’s self; one never knows when the governmental assistance they seek may be unavailable.)
